CAS card - a little birdie ....

CAS Birthday Card in Gold and Silver

Hello, everyone! I made this card with three challenges in mind; the cue word 'cut' from CASology; the colours gold and silver from That's Crafty's challenge; Darnell's NBUS #8 challenge (NBUS = Never-Before-Used Schtuff). What I had never used before are both the large circle and birthday die cuts:

I cut the big circle only partially and tucked a pair of charm scissors underneath, to illustrate the CASology challenge's cue word, cut, in addition to using two die cuts.

The circle flap is lifted up by some foam dots, revealing the gold cardstock underneath. Attached to the silver scissors are metal threads in silver and gold -  the colours for That's Crafty's challenge:
 

Darnell from the NBUS challenge invites us to use a technique we haven't tried before, and cutting a die cut only partially is new to me ... and it took me three attempts to get it right ... I'm no rocket scientist, apparently!!

But wait a minute. Hadn't I forgotten something vital on this card? - No stamping??? Good grief! And I call myself a stamper? Heck, the very name of my blog is Stamped by Bibi! Oy, vey.

After realising what I had done (or not done), it slowly dawned on my thick head (after a minor panic attack) that there was room for more schtuff inside the card! (Ha! Turns out I'm super smart after all! *phew*)

On the left hand side I have used stamps from the set Happy Birthday from Rubber Dance. On the right hand side I have used one of my favourite stamps from That's Crafty!, namely this adorable cat named Bentley (a Donna Gray design). I gold embossed the greeting from African Animals (also Rubber Dance). I coloured Bentley in using Distress inks and a waterbrush. I repeated the same colours on the left hand side (rusty hinge, mustard seed, picked raspberry), leaving some white space in the middle to write a personal message.

The die cut square frame is gold cardstock. I added some silver embossing around the edge of the sentiment's circle, which is also a NBUS die cut (the set has 8 circles, I had only used a slightly bigger one before). I cut the large circle out of Strathmore Mixed Media paper, which has a smooth surface that I love using for stamped images I want to watercolour such as this:

 

So there you have it, a CAS card on the outside ...

- with a not-so-very CAS inside ....

.... where I've used four different STAMPS,

which means I won't have to change the name of my blog any time soon.

Soft Ball - Birthday Card for a Boy

Many things are soft so I have a few ideas for this week's challenge at CASology. I hope I have time to make more than this one, but I'm going away this weekend and have a few things to do before leaving. Anyway - here's my first of hopefully more entries:

This funny fella is a stamp from Stamp-It (Australia). The stamp comes with that sentiment, but I didn't like the font they had used so I cut it off and stamped the same text with a tiny alphabet stamp (unknown).   Image and text stamped on Strathmore mixed media paper with 2nd impression of black Archival Ink, as I do not have any water resistant grey and I wanted it to be soft. Coloured in with ZIG clean colour markers and a waterbrush. 

I added the yarn before mounting on a grey panel, then added the scissor charm from the Norwegian company Korthobby. I think those scissors were fun to add to a sheep card :-)

The Korthobby challenge right now is 'Masculine & Metall from Korthobby.no' and I hope they think my ram is manly enough to pass! I used grey and blue to make my card suitable for a boy's birthday. (For any Norwegian who might not know: 'Have a ball' basically means 'Ha det kjempegøy', and it's also a play with words since the ram is a ball of yarn).

Need a Hug? (CASology #224: Embrace)

Here's a hug for you: ♥ 

I made this card for the CASology challenge, cue word 'embrace'.  I stamped #hug using the open letters from Alphabet Uno (Rubber Dance) with black archival ink on watercolour paper. Letters coloured in with Zig clean colour markers, then given a light mist of water. This is my 3rd attempt - too much water on my first two made it look muddy instead of CAS.

 

 

I coloured a heart of wood with a pink Zig marker and gave it a coat of varnish just to make sure the colour wouldn't rub off on the white background. These heart have tiny hearts for holes. How cute is that?

CASology Challenge, Week #223: TEAM

When I saw this week's cue word at CASology, the first kind of TEAM I thought of was a Design Team ... but how could I stamp that?  I wanted people on my card.... , and after some thinking back and forth I got an idea: Since my own team works for the Rubber Dance stamp company, how about a team of dancers?

I know, these three dancers might not look much of a Design Team to you, but humour me; the stamp is made of Rubber and they Dance, plus they're fun and colourful, so let me introduce to you:

The Rubber Dance Design Team!

 

This is a stamp from Rubber Dance, stamped on Strathmore Mixed Media paper and coloured in with ZIG clean colour markers and a waterbrush. For the colourful "floor" I first scribbled the three colours on an acrylic block, wet the paper where I wanted the colours to be, and used my waterbrush to pick up one colour at a time and let them flow around the wet stripe. I hope that made sense ...

CASology Challenge, Week #222: WELCOME

Welcome! I made this card for a new neighbour ... well, first of all I made it for this week's challenge at CASology  ;-)

House stamp from Rubber Dance, all dies from Your Next Stamp, including the stitched frame - which is actually just a long stiched line that I used to make a frame out of. House coloured with ZIG clean colour makers and a waterbrush. The only colour added to the white die cuts is the yellow inside the street lamp - I think the shadows they cast are enough to make them stand out from the white background.  Text made on my PC.

CASology Challenge, Week #221: CURE

Hello there! When I saw that the cue word at CASology this week was CURE, I thought long and hard about all kinds of serious matters ...until deciding on a funny cure instead:

 

My card is featuring yet another beautiful stamp designed by my friend Donna Gray for That's Crafty! This one is called Serena. (Previously, I've used Bentley, Donna's adorable cat stamp on this card, and Beki, one of her whimsical women on this card). 

I've used my new ZIG clean color markers again - this time on cardstock with a coat of white Gesso - a tip I got from Donna.

I find it very interesting to experiment with these ZIG markers on different surfaces, and this has got to be the less expensive method: I used cheap cardstock and a cheap brand of Gesso, which I diluted with tap water and painted onto the cardstock with a broad paintbrush. I left it to dry completely before stamping with black archival ink.

The beauty of this method is that no matter how long the ZIG markers are left to dry, and they do dry  quickly, you can still go back to it days later and lift the colours up with water, or go in with a Zig marker to add more colour or to blend the colours.

I used a waterbrush to blend the colours of Serena's hair, adding dots of more colour here and there as I went along. Her face is coloured with three light ZIG markers, and water just to lift up some of the colour on the tip of her nose, chin, and her right cheek (left side from where we're looking at her). Notice how I goofed on the shadow and light on her neck? They should've been be reversed, with the light source coming from the same side as that of her face. I didn't see my blunder till after I had placed the card here in my post. Oh, well ....

A note about the text on my card: I wanted to use my Dymo to spell that sentence, but half through it ran empty of tape and I didn't have a replacement. That's the look I wanted, though, as a hard contrast to Serena's soft face, so I made the text on my computer instead. The band-aid is real, though :)

CASology Challenge, Week #220: COFFEE

This week's cue word at CASology is my cup of tea... or rather mug of coffee! Making coffee is the first thing I do in the morning and I drink it till I go to bed - no problems sleeping on caffeine :)

I made this card using stamps from my first stamp company (Stampinavia), which I sold in 2005. This is how we spell coffee in Norwegian:

CASology Challenge, Week #219: SPOOKY

Boo! I haven't made many Halloween cards before, but when the CASology Challenge asks me to make something, I will! That's what a challenge is, isn't it? ;-)

The gorgeous bat stamp is from Cherry Pie and the cobweb stencil is from Hero Arts. A friend gave that stencil to me last weekend, and this is the first time I use it (or part of it, anyway).

This week, I will quote the CASology Challenge blog about the theme: "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we'd like to send out a little love and support to those whose lives have been touched by this disease is some way!"

CASology Challenge, Week #217: CUTE

Hey, people! When I saw the cue word at the CASology Challenge this week, I had to remind myself that I like a good challenge - in the true sense of the word. I don't do cute! But I wanted to join this week as well, so I looked through my enormous collection of stamps to see if I could find anything that would pass as cute - and I did!

I think this viking baby is very cute and so adorable. It was designed by my cousin and friend Liv for my first stamp company, Stampinavia. Scandinavian images were not available at the time (1999), so I designed some and Liv designed quite a few for me (I love her drawings!).

I sold Stampinavia in 2005 when I went back to college and didn't have the time to run it any longer. Most of my old stamps are still available at Kreativ Hobby here in Norway, including this viking baby.

Anyway - I stamped the baby with waterproof ink on watercolour paper and coloured it in with Distress inks and a waterbrush. I know one woman who is pregnant, but I don't know whether it's a boy ... if not, I'll save this card for the next baby boy born into our family or circle of friends (or rather our friends' children - most of my friends are much too old to reproduce!!)

CASology Challenge, Week #216: FRAME

I was worried that I would miss the CASology challenge this week, as I've been away on autumn holiday on the west coast of Norway. But I'm back, so here we go!

 

I stamped a large maple leaf (Rubber Dance) on watercolour paper, using Distress inks and a mist of water.  I added more yellow ink here and there with a waterbrush, and yellow Distress Spray Stain for a few splashes. I cut part of the leaf our with a frame die, adhered the base and oval to a green card, and popped the frame up with foam tape on the back. The sentiment (Rubber Dance) was stamped with green ink that matched that of the leaf.
